-"In the pages after these words, you’ll find a collection of wonderful images that represent an artist who has found his stride. You’ll find drawings unfolding into paintings, the use of found paper and pattern underneath delicate washes. You’ll find paintings with hidden words and fading advertisements amongst lovelorn figures. You will see an artist with a profound admiration for nature and humanity emerging through his work." Play It, Boston: 75 Brightly Painted Pianos Invade

Written by Andrea Shea

"A few weeks ago I met with Somerville artist Michael Crockett as he added some finishing touches to that milestone piano. He was surrounded by dozens of donated spinets and uprights being painted by other artists in a vast warehouse space on Boston’s waterfront.

Crockett collaborated with his art partner, a graphic illustrator known as Eyeformation, to dream up the look for the baby grand. In the end, they decided on bright colors, city icons and cartoonish characters."

Dancing In The Streets / Playing for keeps

Written by Nick Hansen

"Here's your chance to have the keys to the city." Seventy five pianos will be distributed throughout Boston for Play Me I'm Your's, an installation celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Celebrity Series of Boston. Starting on Sept, 27, the public will be encouraged to play the pianos, which were all decorated by local artists and organizations. "we wanted to bring the music off the stage and into the city," says Gary Dunning, president of the Celebrity Series. "It really is about connecting people in the neighborhood."Now that's music to our ears.

CHROMA / A New England Art Awakening

CHROMA: A NORTH SHORE ART TRIO’S LABOR OF LOVE.

Written by Chris Ricci

"Calling Chroma just an art magazine is a terrible injustice. It’s a labor of love meticulously crafted by three former Montserrat students and their production company, Tryptic Press. It’s an evenly-distributed focus on North Shore area artists that you may or may not have heard about. It stands as more of an entity than a branded publication; the Chroma Facebook page, for example, isn’t a page you like, it’s a page you add as a friend which adds a depth of humanity to this publication. Most importantly, Chroma is an idea that hasn’t existed in this form in the North Shore area, and it’s creation isn’t only important, but also necessary."

JOY STREET – A STUDY OF ANGST AND PAIN

"The self-portrait, created by Michael Crockett, a 1997 graduate of Montserrat College of Art, seemed to perfectly capture my angst as I impatiently anticipated the warmer days ahead. Why not today? When, then? Well…then…fine. Up yours!

I tracked Crockett down at Somerville Open Studios the first Sunday of May in an industrial area not far from Union Square, down a long hallway at door number 32,

Joy Street Studios."
